Australia – Adventure Vacation With Bareboat Yacht Charter

Sailing, perhaps not the first thing that comes to mind when thinking about Australia – kangaroos, crocodiles and rugged outback are more commonly mentioned while discussing all things down under – however, the country also features the Great Barrier Reef, the largest reef in the world. As such, there are also plenty of water activities to be had when visiting this continent and what better way to experience the Great Barrier Reef than with a bareboat yacht charter? Gather your family, strap on a life vest and, with your charted ship, sail through the vide variety of islands that make up Australia’s east coast.

With over two million visitors each year, the reef is a very popular destination, and its diverse marine life and birdlife is unmatched. The reef is home to over 10% of the world’s species of fish, and everything from humpback whales to sea snakes make up their living there. The area that is considered to be part of the reef is larger than the United Kingdom, Holland and Switzerland combined, and it’s believed that the reef is over 20 million years old.

The Whitsunday Islands, part of The Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, is located just off the coast of Queensland and offers calm and protected waters that are just perfect to sail in. A huge amount of places are available for anchoring as the area consists of over 90 islands. Each island is fringed by the coral reef and, as such, locations for snorkelling and diving are abundant.

While cruising the islands you will experience a wide variety of scenery. For example, Whitehaven Beach, with its vast swirls of white sands and waters of green, turquoise and blue, is regarded as one of the world’s most beautiful beaches. You will also moor at bustling marinas where there are restaurants and bars aplenty. Also, explore waterfalls and aboriginal caves, and if present during the right season, you may have the opportunity to swim with stingrays.

So why not take the plunge and experience Australia in a different way – all the while enjoying the comforts of having your own bareboat yacht charter? Let the wind propel you forward as you glide through the Whitsunday Islands and discover the Great Barrier Reef as you never seen it before.
